Luxury Vinyl Plank vs. Hardwood: Which Floor Fits Your Home?

It's the question we hear on almost every in-home estimate, whether we're measuring a kitchen in Peachtree City or a lanai-adjacent living room in Tampa, FL & surrounding counties: luxury vinyl plank or hardwood? Both look like real wood from across the room. Only one of them shrugs off a Tampa, FL & surrounding counties humid summer or a dog that just came in from the rain. Here's how we walk homeowners through the decision.

Why we're called the LVP Pros

We didn't pick our name by accident. Rigid-core LVP has become the floor we install most across Metro Atlanta and Tampa, FL & surrounding counties - it locks together over almost any subfloor, laughs at spilled sweet tea and pool-day foot traffic, and still reads as wide-plank oak or hickory from six feet away. When a homeowner asks what we'd put in our own house, this is usually it.

Where hardwood still wins

Solid hardwood is real wood, full stop, and buyers notice that in a formal dining room or a primary bedroom that never sees a wet paw. If your subfloor is wood (not a concrete slab) and the room stays dry, hardwood remains the floor with the longest track record for adding resale value. We install and refinish it across our Georgia service area - see our hardwood refinishing page for what that process looks like.

The humidity and slab problem

Georgia summers are muggy and a lot of Tampa, FL & surrounding counties homes sit on a concrete slab - both are tough conditions for solid hardwood, which expands, contracts, and can cup as moisture moves through it. Rigid-core LVP eliminates that problem entirely: it's dimensionally stable, fully waterproof, and installs directly over slab with a simple underlayment. That's a big part of why our Tampa, FL & surrounding counties crews reach for LVP on the vast majority of jobs.

Our honest recommendation, room by room

  • Kitchens, mudrooms, laundry, baths - LVP, every time. Waterproof matters more than anything else here.
  • Living rooms and family rooms with pets or kids - LVP for the peace of mind.
  • Primary bedrooms and formal dining on a wood subfloor - hardwood if the budget allows it.
  • Basements and Tampa, FL & surrounding counties slab homes - LVP; solid hardwood isn't rated for below-grade or direct-to-slab installs.
  • Whole-home consistency - most of our clients run LVP throughout for one continuous look and zero worry about which room is 'safe' for wood.

How we help you decide

Every estimate starts the same way, whether you're in Alpharetta or St. Petersburg: we bring full-size LVP and hardwood samples to your home, measure every room, and talk through what each floor will actually live like in your space - not just how it photographs. If budget matters, ask about our 0% interest financing through Synchrony and Enhancify. And if you want to hear it from neighbors instead of us, our reviews are a good place to start.
